Child Custody
Child custody disputes can be traumatic for both parents and children. While you are living with your children, you have access to them 24 hours a day. If you are in the midst of a divorce or separation and do not have that access, it is disruptive and distressing. It is better for your child if you can negotiate a child custody arrangement with your spouse or the child's other parent. However, we understand that this is not always possible. There are times when you need to litigate child custody, particularly if there are issues of domestic violence or abuse.
In Georgia, the best interests of the children will govern any decision regarding who has custody and visitation rights. From the court's perspective, in the absence of abuse, children are best served by having two involved parents. Children need to know they are loved. Children also need the security of knowing they will continue to have a significant relationship with each parent. To negotiate a parenting plan that meets your child's needs, it is important for you to put your child's needs first and your needs second.
As your attorney, I will help you seek the custody, visitation, and parenting plan that you want and that is in your child's best interests.
